Steven W. A. Gonsalves, MD
Biography
Dr. Gonsalves is a fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in primary and revision Adult Reconstructive Surgery of the hip and knee with a special emphasis on minimally invasive techniques, robotic-assisted surgery, as well as complex revision surgery.
Dr. Gonsalves was born and raised on Maui, Hawaii and obtained his medical degree from The University of Hawai’i John A. Burns School of Medicine, in Honolulu, Hawaii where he won awards for composure and compassion.
Dr. Gonsalves completed his residency at The University of Arizona Orthopedic Surgery Residency in Tucson, Arizona where he served as Chief Resident and received the programs coveted “Chairman’s Award.”
Dr. Gonsalves training concluded with completion of the Hedley Orthopedic Institute of the West Adult Reconstruction Fellowship in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he developed his skills in minimally invasive robotic-assisted hip and knee replacement surgery.
Dr. Gonsalves utilizes the Direct Superior approach to Total Hip Arthroplasty and muscle sparing Sub-Vastus approach for Total Knee Arthroplasty which allows for a speedier recovery and minimal restrictions after surgery. The use of these modern techniques combined with appropriate postoperative protocols and patient selection, lead to many patients going home the same day as surgery.
Dr. Gonsalves is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the American Orthopedic Association (AOA).
Dr. Gonsalves enjoys spending time with family and friends, football, basketball, mixed martial arts, stand up paddle boarding, fitness, exploring new cuisines, and cooking.
