About
Dr. Greg DeSilva has been a faculty member of the University of Arizona Department of Orthopedic Surgery since 2007. He has served as the residency program director at the University of Arizona since 2009 and has been active in the Council of Orthopaedic Residency Directors, American Orthopedic Association, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and Orthopedic Trauma Association serving on numerous committees. Also, he has served as President of the Detroit Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the Southwest Orthopaedic Trauma Association. With his colleagues from SWOTA, he is co-director of the annual Intern Motor Skills Course.
Dr. DeSilva attended the University of Michigan for both his undergraduate and medical degrees. He stayed in Ann Arbor where he completed his orthopedic surgery training where he served as a resident team physician for the University of Michigan. He completed a hand surgery fellowship in Baltimore at Union Memorial Hospital, the Curtis National Hand Center, in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. DeSilva is board certified through the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery with additional ABOS certification in the sub-specialty of hand surgery.
Dr. DeSilva’s career highlights include:
- Academic interests include athletic injuries of the hand, wrist and elbow, management of bone loss, soft tissue coverage, and surgical education
- Has published papers on scaphoid fractures and wrist injuries in athletes, and elbow dislocations in wrestlers. His goal is a rapid return to high level play for all athletes.
- Board certified in orthopedic surgery with subspecialty certification in hand surgery
- Completed his BS/MD degrees at the University of Michigan
- Completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Michigan where he served as resident team physician for the department of athletics.
- As a resident surgeon, won the Bronze Beeper teaching award and the Leonard Marmor Award for outstanding resident performance.
