We were honored to welcome Dr. Alastair Younger as our distinguished visiting professor for the Ron Johnson Memorial Foot and Ankle Lecture. This annual lecture series was established in 2002 to honor the memory of Dr. Ron Johnson, who was a beloved member of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Arizona. Dr. Johnson served as our foot and ankle specialist from August 2001 until his untimely passing in August 2002 at the age of 43. In addition to his medical degree, Dr. Johnson held a PhD in Pharmacology and had a diverse and rich background, including serving as a flight surgeon in the Army, working in Emergency Medicine, and being an avid hiker, soccer coach, and musician. His dedication to his profession and his residents left a lasting impact, and this lectureship continues his legacy of mentorship and passion for orthopaedic education.

Dr. Younger delivered an insightful presentation on, “Evolution of Ankle Fusion to Replacement” and “Evolution of Open to Minimally Invasive Surgery in Foot and Ankle” on April 2, 2025, as part of this ongoing tribute to Dr. Johnson's commitment to teaching and learning.

Additionally, on April 1, 2025, our residents participated in a hands-on cadaver lab, further enhancing their learning experience. We are deeply grateful to Dr. Younger for his contribution to this significant educational event and for helping preserve Dr. Johnson’s enduring influence on the profession.

Thank you to all who participated in these memorable events and continue to honor Dr. Johnson’s legacy.
