John Elfar Named New Chair of the UArizona Department of Orthopaedic Surgery
John Elfar, MD, has been named chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson, effective Aug. 15.
Dr. Elfar joins the UArizona College of Medicine – Tucson from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine and Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, where he is vice chair of the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation and the Michael and Myrtle Baker Professor of Surgery.
Throughout his career as a surgeon-scientist, Dr. Elfar has been actively engaged in delivering orthopedic surgical care while promoting the development of translational approaches to research. His research funding includes nearly $5 million in grants from the National Institutes of Health and Department of Defense.
