Joint Orthopaedics-Management Research Awarded Eller College of Management Grant
A joint research project between faculty at the College of Medicine and Eller College of Management was recently awarded a small research grant from the Center for Management Innovations in Healthcare at the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona.
Nicholas Bonazza, MD, MHA, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics, and Juan Pantano, PhD, a Professor of Economics at Eller, were awarded the grant to study the complex decision-making between a surgeon and patient in the treatment of orthopaedic injuries.
Their hope is to analyze the many influences on both a patient and a surgeon during treatment decisions. A better understanding of the factors driving healthcare decisions may help surgeons better counsel patients on the right treatment for them, says Bonazza. “The work has direct applications to our daily care of patients,” Bonazza said, “but also can help shape the future of patient care in an increasingly value–driven healthcare landscape.”
