Orthopaedic Surgery Electives for Medical Students

Participation in any fourth year elective will be allowed on a space-available basis with University of Arizona medical students receiving priority placement until May. Currently, the fourth year electives are only offered at the Tucson Campus. When applying, please make note of this.

For LCME visiting students,  the University of Arizona College of Medicine uses VSAS, the Visiting Student Application Service, sub-internship applications. Applications may be submitted through VSAS starting on May 1st. Scheduling will begin on May 15th and students will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. To apply to our school, please complete and send us a VSAS application for your preferred electives and dates. For more information on VSAS, please visit http://www.aamc.org/vsas or contact VSAS at vsas@aamc.org or (202) 478-9878.

D.O. students are now eligible to apply for extern rotations with this department, but to participate the student must have taken the USMLE Step 1exam and must submit a transcript with the application. Please see the instructions for application at http://medicine.arizona.edu/student-affairs/tucson/students/visitingstudents.

The department does not accept applications for rotations from non-LCME students from foreign schools.

Fourth year students considering applying for a residency in our program should try to schedule a rotation between the months of August and November, although rotations can be scheduled year round. It is advisable to contact the course coordinator early as these electives fill up quickly.

If you are an extern applying for this program, please apply online through VSAS. For opening date of application or for questions regarding the application process, please contact Student Affairs.
